Hello everyone, I am very sorry about the lack of updates recently (what with midterms, other friends, and general procrastination). Anyhow to make up for that I’ll be having a strategy session marathon this weekend, so be sure to check in every few hours as constant updates stream in!
To start off the first strategy of our marathon, I’d like to go over one of my favorite 1v1 strats that I developed when I noticed a lot of my opponents have Van Bloot as their creature. Its made specifically take down those annoying Bloots, other Chaors and to a lesser extent, Maxxors.
Chaor w/ Liquidlizer
C-100
P-100
W-60
S-60
E-65
(Yes I know… my Chaor has awesome stats)
Attack deck:
Degenervate x2
Ember swarm
Evaporize x2
Flame orb
Flash warp x2
Incinerase
Power pulse x2
Riptide x2
Skeletal strike x2
Shadow strike x2
Telekinetic bolt
Torrent of flame x2
The main idea here is to use discipline reducing attacks such as Ember swarm, Riptide, and Degenervate to reduce the discipline of your opponent (effectively shutting down Bloot’s and Chaor’s damage output), this means that if your lucky, your opponent won’t be able to deal any (or little) damage with challenging attacks. From there, slowly whittle down your opponent’s energy with a steady assault of 10 damage challenging attacks based towards their weaknesses.
The only ultras that this dosen’t works quite well on are Maxxor and Heptadd, because the OW ultras pack multiple elements, having low discipline don’t hurt them as much as the UW ultras (which are discipline based). Regardless it should shut down a few of challenging attacks, and allow you to deal max damage with such cards as Power pulse or Telekinetic bolt.
Pros:
- Effective against creatures who rely on discipline
- Surprises an enemy (Who would expect a Chaor using water attacks eh?)
- Allows you to deal a lot of damage via challenging attacks
Cons
- Not as effective against creatures who rely on elements
- Reduces the damage you can do generally (as opposed to a Chaor with a deck based solely on damage)
- Not very effective against non Ultras
So, the basic idea here is to use this army only when you know you are going to face a Bloot or Chaor (cards very commonly seen in the top 20 ranked players). I know it’s not a very flexible strategy, and it uses a lot of rare cards. But to this day it remains one of my favorite 1v1 (and hopefully after a few tweaks an effective 3v3) armies.
Got a strategy you’re dieing to let the world know? Feel free to send any of your strategies to Pocketkoi@hotmail.com to be included in our edition of Runic Grove (a series devoted to fan made strategies). Or perhaps you have a question, comment, or even a challenge :P, go ahead and post a comment (honestly… I’ve had over a 1000 views and no comments as of yet T-T)
